Merging Contacts

If you have multiple contact records for the same entity or person, you may want to merge them together so that it is less confusing for your team and your marketing.

How to merge two contacts?

If you want to merge two contacts, open up the contact record of the contact you want to retain the data of.

Click on the three dots in the contact card in the top left and select merge.

Now search for the contact that you want to merge into this contact record.

Click confirm to merge the two contacts together. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you are really sure!

The page will reload automatically and the contacts will be merged!

What happens?

What happens when two contacts are merged? Here is a helpful table to understand which data is moved and where it is moved to.

Definitions

These terms will help you understand what's happening.

Primary Contact The contact which you initiated the merge
Other Contact The contact which is being merged into the primary contact

Results

Here's what happens to each data point

First Name, Last Name The details of the primary contact are preserved unless there is missing information in which data from the other contact is used to replace that data.
Email, Mobile Phone, Primary Phone The details of the primary contact are preserved unless there is missing information in which data from the other contact is used to replace that data.

Any additional contact methods from the other contact that are not the same as the primary contact's are added to the additional contact methods in the More tab.
Custom Fields & Meta Data The details of the  primary contact are preserved unless there is missing information in which data from the other contact is used to replace that data.
Notes All notes are transferred to the primary contact.
Files All files are moved to the primary contact's file box.
Email Activity All of other contact's email activity is associated with the primary contact.
Funnel Events & History The primary contact will take the place of the other contact in all active funnels. All funnel history will be attributed to the primary contact.
Site Activity  All site activity will be attributed to the  primary contact.
Other data type associations Other associations like form submissions, payments, companies, deals, contracts, and more will be attributed to the primary contact record, preserving all data.
