How to remove inactive subscribers
Regularly removing inactive subscribers from your general email list is a recommended practice to enforce COI (confirmed opt-in) and adopt a consent-based approach to email marketing. Even if the email address was collected during a customer interaction, consumer email addresses can go stale and cause deliverability issues.
What is an "inactive" contact?
Any subscriber that has not...
- opened an email
- clicked an email
- visited your website
- made a purchase
- or otherwise interacted with you in any way
How do I remove inactive contacts?
The best way to remove inactive contacts in Groundhogg is to unsubscribe them manually from your list. That way they stay in the CRM and their previous activity will be available if they ever re-subscribe.
From the contact list view you can add the Was Inactive activity filter.
In the date range of the filter, select "in the last X days" and add "180" to the field.
Then click search to show the inactive contacts.
When the list is refreshed click More Actions above the table and click Edit Contacts to be taken to the bulk edit screen.
You can alternatively export, and then delete these contacts instead.
On the bulk-edit screen, select Unsubscribed as the new opt-in status.
Then scroll to the bottom and click Update.
