Connect Formsite to Groundhogg

This guide will walk you through the process of integrating Formsite with Groundhogg by setting up a webhook in Formsite to send form submission data to Groundhogg's Webhook Listener. This allows you to automatically capture form data as contacts in Groundhogg for marketing automation and CRM purposes.

Prerequisites

Step 1: Create a Form in Formsite

  1. Log in to Formsite:
    • Go to your Formsite dashboard and sign in.
  2. Create or Select a Form:
    • Either create a new form or choose an existing one you want to connect to Groundhogg.
    • Add the fields you want to capture (e.g., Name, Email, Phone) and save your form.

Step 2: Set Up the Webhook Listener in Groundhogg

  1. Log in to Your WordPress Admin Dashboard:
    • Navigate to your WordPress site where Groundhogg is installed.
  2. Access Groundhogg Funnels:
    • In the WordPress admin menu, go to Groundhogg > Funnels.
  3. Create a New Funnel:
    • Click Add New Funnel.
    • Select Start from Scratch and give your funnel a name (e.g., "Formsite Integration").
    • Click Create.
  4. Add the Webhook Listener Benchmark:
    • In the funnel editor, click the + icon to add a step.
    • Under the Benchmarks tab, select Webhook Listener.
    • Add it as the starting step of your funnel.
  5. Copy the Webhook URL:
  6. Activate the Funnel:
    • Ensure the funnel is set to Active by toggling the switch in the top-right corner of the funnel editor. (You’ll configure field mapping later after testing.)

Step 3: Configure the Webhook in Formsite

  1. Go to Formsite Form Settings:
    • In your Formsite dashboard, select the form you want to integrate.
    • Click on Integrate in the top menu.
  2. Set Up the Server Post (Webhook):
    • Under the Integrations section, find and select Server Post.
    • Enable the Server Post option by checking the box.
  3. Paste the Groundhogg Webhook URL:
    • In the Post URL field, paste the Webhook URL you copied from Groundhogg.
  4. Configure the Data Format:
    • Set the Post Type to JSON (Groundhogg’s Webhook Listener natively handles JSON data).
    • Ensure all form fields you want to send to Groundhogg are included in the payload (this is automatic with Server Post unless you customize it).
  5. Save the Integration:
    • Click Save or Apply to save your webhook settings.

Step 4: Test the Connection

  1. Submit a Test Form:
    • Open your Formsite form (you can find the live link in the Formsite dashboard under Share).
    • Fill out the form with sample data (e.g., name, email) and submit it.
  2. Check Groundhogg for Incoming Data:
    • Return to your Groundhogg funnel editor in WordPress.
    • Edit the Webhook Listener step.
    • Scroll to the Request section—it should now display the data sent from your Formsite test submission (e.g., {"name": "John Doe", "email": "john@example.com"}).
    • If no data appears, double-check that the funnel is active and the Webhook URL matches exactly.

Step 5: Map Formsite Fields to Groundhogg Contact Fields

  1. Configure Field Mapping in Groundhogg:
    • In the Webhook Listener settings panel, click Map Request Fields.
    • Match the Formsite field names (from the Request data) to Groundhogg contact fields:
      • Example: Map email to Email, name to First Name, etc.
      • If a field doesn’t exist in Groundhogg, create a custom field.
      • Save the mapping by clicking Update.
  2. Add Additional Actions (Optional):
    • In the funnel, add steps after the Webhook Listener, such as:
      • Apply Tag: To tag the contact (e.g., "Formsite Lead").
      • Add Note: To add a note to the contact (e.g., "This Contact came from Formsite on {date.l jS F Y h:i:s A|now}").
    • Update the funnel after adding any additional steps.

Step 6: Verify the Integration

  1. Submit Another Test Form:
    • Fill out and submit the Formsite form again with new test data.
  2. Check Groundhogg Contacts:
    • Go to Groundhogg > Contacts in your WordPress dashboard.
    • Look for a new contact with the data from your test submission (e.g., name, email).
    • Verify that the mapped fields and any additional actions (like tags) were applied correctly.
  3. Troubleshoot if Needed:
    • If no contact appears, ensure the funnel is active, the field mapping is correct, and the Webhook URL hasn’t changed.

You’ve now successfully connected Formsite to Groundhogg CRM using webhooks! New form submissions will automatically flow into Groundhogg, where you can use them for marketing automation, contact management, and more. For further customization, explore Groundhogg’s funnel builder to create follow-up actions like sending welcome emails or triggering campaigns.
